Calpak (later renamed “Del Monte Foods”) constructed the building as a fruit cannery but it is now used by Blue Diamond Almonds [2] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Created by Rebecca Woodham on August 19th 2017, 4:42:41 pm. In the early twentieth century, Sacramento was known throughout the United States for its canning industry. Libby Cannery, which began operation in 1913, was once the largest canning operation in the world. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

As of March 1929, Sacramento’s four canneries were employing over 5,000 people and boasted a payroll total of $3,000,000. At the time of the photograph, Sacramento and the nation were well into the Great Depression.
